Inistioge Horse Show 2017

Inistioge Show - A wave of nostalgia sweeping over the village!

There’s a wave of nostalgia in the air as Inistioge Show Society hosts the event again after a wait of 34 years. Having skipped a generation, the Show Society has reformed with a 2017 organising team, and plans to run a one-day event on the banks of the river Nore on Sunday 9 July 2017.

Inistioge Show Society has been in existence since 1963. Many successful events were organised by the Society until the last 3-day Agricultural Show event was held in June 1983. Since then, the Inistioge Show event has been in hibernation.

Of course the Inistioge organising team has a “black-type pedigree” when it comes to putting on quality events in addition to the fact that there’s a history of World Class Showjumping at the spectacular south Kilkenny venue by the river.  In 1979, Eddie Macken and Boomerang participated a year after picking up the Silver medal at the 1978 World Show Jumping Championships in Aachen, Germany. In June 1982, Captain Gerry Mullins participated in the show when it was located in Coppenagh near Graignamanagh. A few weeks later he finished fourth in the World Show Jumping Championships in Dublin on board the Irish-bred jumper Rockbarton. Other notable international world class show jumpers who competed in Inistioge include Paul Darragh, James Kernan, Robert Splaine and Jack Doyle in addition to Captain Con Power and members of the Army Equitation School.

This year the show has been designed to cater for all show jumping abilities and skills. There will be 26 classes over 3 arenas. Classes include Newcomers, the Glencarig Lady League, the National Pony League Qualifier and the Leinster League for Ponies & Horses. The big event of the day will be the 110 Horse class with €800 in prize money, and €400 for the winner. No doubt a new world-class Boomerang or Rockbarton will be participating in that event. Of course these events would not be possible without the support, generosity and goodwill of our sponsors – so a big shout out to them.

In addition, Inistioge Show Society is delighted to announce it has partnered with two local charitable causes in 2017; Mother of Fair Love School, Kilkenny and “Cumas” New Ross, Community Workshop.
